Lumbar spinal stenosis and knee osteoarthritis. The connection?
They’re both age-related degenerative diseases. (1) Some of us may
escape them, but those who do not can rely on their Vancouver chiropractor at Vancouver Spine Care Centre to step in and help with chiropractic spinal manipulation, nutritional
advice, and understanding.
KOA and LSS
They are such little abbreviations for such
painful conditions. Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) affects
27 million people. (5) Degenerative changes in the spine are evident
in upwards of 95% of those over 50.
Spinal stenosis most often occurs in adults over 60 years old. (6) Degeneration of
cartilage has a role in each. Pain results from each. When combined
in one person, these two conditions may alter clinical
outcomes for each. Lumbar spinal stenosis patients who undergo
back surgery for their condition and also have knee
osteoarthritis find their recoveries a bit less favorable
related to social life and activities. Their KOA complicates
their ability to do routine work or ordinary activities due to knee pain or
restricted knee range of motion. Authors of this paper suggested
tempering surgical outcome predictions in patients who are inflicted with
KOA. (1) Vancouver Spine Care Centre uses Vancouver chiropractic services to help back pain and knee pain
sufferers feel better.
THE IMPORTANCE OF ADDRESSING KNEE AND
OTHER PAIN
It’s pretty hard to
ignore Vancouver back pain and knee pain. People who
have any type of low back pain and KOA had 2.7 times higher risk of recurrent
falls. People who have moderate to severe low back pain and KOA were
3.7 times more at risk for falls. (2) Patients who have KOA and
widespread pain vs patients with KOA and low back pain vs patients with KOA and
multijoint pain vs patients with KOA only, patients who have
widespread pain and KOA described feeling worse with higher measures
of pain sensitization, less function and poorer physical performance. (3)
Vancouver Spine Care Centre can improve things though.
CHIROPRACTIC CARE
Vancouver Spine Care Centre utilizes well-researched
chiropractic care for knee osteoarthritis and Vancouver back pain
relief. Chiropractic researchers just
reported that a combination of education,
exercise and manual therapy over 6 weeks increased function for two of three patients with knee osteoarthritis. (4)
Vancouver Spine Care Centre also uses the research-documented, gentle
spinal manipulation, Cox® Technic, to reduce intradiscal pressures,
widen the area of canal and increase the height of the disc.
