No Exercise Often Increases Risk of More Vancouver Pain & Disease Progression

Do something. Walk. Stretch. Move. Pain sufferers benefit when they do something. A lack of exercise is a risk for deteriorating pain, both pain in the body and pain in the mind in the form of depression. Vancouver Spine Care Centre sees many Vancouver back pain patients in pain who also suffer with depression. Vancouver Spine Care Centre also recognizes that when our Vancouver chiropractic patients do something, they improve in body and mind.

NO EXERCISE RAISES RISK OF STENOSIS PROGRESSION

Spinal stenosis is a common diagnosis. It is the reduction of the spinal canal area due to degeneration. A recent study revealed that risk of spinal stenosis progression is higher for those who had spondylolisthesis, experienced pain (in leg and/or back) when walking, and more severe stenosis. The lack of therapeutic exercise was also found to a risk factor for the advancement of spinal stenosis. (1) Back pain sufferers like those with spinal stenosis and spondylolisthesis must exercise! Vancouver Spine Care Centre helps each of our chiropractic patients find what exercise fits them.

EXERCISE ENHANCES FUNCTION

Nonspecific low back pain sufferers enhanced their functional disability level more with stabilization and/or McKenzie exercises than with conventional exercise programs. (2) Note though that exercise did help, whether or not it was conventional!

EXERCISE IMPROVES DEPRESSION

For many back pain sufferers with specific or non-specific back pain, chronic or not, may well describe themselves as a little blue when their back pain hangs around longer than desired. It’s not unusual. Again, exercise to the rescue! Another study reported that exercise (low dose or moderate-dose strength and conditioning) helped decrease depressive symptoms in adults with chronic low back pain. Combining exercise and manual therapy was a bonus! (3) Vancouver Spine Care Centre brings in as many positive approaches to back pain relief as possible to help our Vancouver back pain patients! The Cox® Technic System of Spine Pain Management is one of those approaches.
